The Structure of the Party

The Seychelles National Party is organised into 6 distinct bodies:

The Party Convention
The Executive Committee
The Office Bearers Committee
The National Secretariat
District Representatives
Women's Organisation

The Party Convention

The Party Convention is the Supreme body of the SNP. It is the gathering of all members of the Party with the members of its executive committee and district representatives. The Convention has the mandate to

decide the broad principles and programmes for the Party
propose and adopt amendments to the Constitution
elect the Executive Committee
present candidates for national elections
deal with any other matter that may be required

An Ordinary Convention is held at least once a year but extraordinary Conventions may be held when required.

The Executive Committee

The Executive Committee (EC) is elected every three years during the party Convention. It sets the policies and plans, and executes the party programme and activities.

The EC is made up of five office bearers and between 12 and 15 ordinary members, elected by the Party Convention. The office bearers are the Party Leader, the Secretary-General, two Deputy Secretaries-General and the Party Treasurer.

The Party Leader may, in order to achieve balance in regional, gender, or other category of representation, co-opt other persons to serve on the executive committee as ordinary members, to a maximum of 15 members.

The Party Leader may in addition convene the Members of the National Assembly to attend one or more meetings of the Executive Committee.

The Office Bearers Committee

The Office Bearers Committee is charged with the day to day management of party affairs within the guidelines set by the Executive Committee and under the direction of the Party Leader.

The National Secretariat

The Secretariat is established at the headquarters of the Party, located at Arpent Vert, Mont Fleuri on Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles.

The Secretariat provides professional support for the Party’s activities at the national, district and parliamentary levels. It is responsible for administration, policy development, research and strategic planning, publications and publicity materials, membership and mobilization. It also co-ordinates the SNP’s international relations.

The Secretary-General is responsible for the overall co-ordination of the Secretariat and is assisted by the Deputy Secretaries-General.

District Representatives

The organization of the SNP at constituency level is the responsibility of the District Representative. The District Reps meet with the Executive Committee once a month to review party affairs, and to plan, discuss, and assess work at the constituency level.

Women's Organisation

The Women’s Organisation promotes the participation of women within the party. It is managed by a Management Committee elected by its members in a General Meeting.
